Bored to death so here's randomness.
Jessie sat down in her lawn chair relaxing as she watched the birds fly by her house. She hadn't been able to relax in six months and even then it lasted but a moment. Her younger brothers were fighting again and she had to go find out why.
Jessie has had a hard life growing up in foster homes. Until two years ago when she was actually adopted into a family of four. Since then life for her went better with every passing day until six months ago. It was on the way to her eighteenth birthday party that her mother died in a wreck. Two weeks later her father died of heart break. Leaving her the guardian of her brothers.
Since then she has had to get accustomed to all work and no play. Now that school is out for the summer she gets to relax... she wishes. Now she has to deal with her brothers all day. She dreads it when she wakes up but she is always glad they wake later than her.
She stood from her seat and walked around behind the house to see her thirteen year old brother Steven on the ground with sixteen year old Austin standing triumphantly over him. She asked "What are you two fighting over this time?" after examining the situation. Austin looked at her and said "We were just playin' around." Steven stood up quickly and said "He's lying! I was mindin' my own business when he came along and started buggin' me."
Jessie grabbed Austin's arm and pulled him to the side of the house and told him to mind his own business. She let go of his arm when she was convinced he would do so for at least the next half hour. Austin turned and walked off sayin' "I'm goin' to Desmond's house for a bit."
Steven came around the corner of the house and said "Thanks Jessie." Jessie smiled and said "It was nothin'. You know you can come get me any time he's bugging you." Steven looked at the ground and replied "Yea I know. I'm just" Steven paused to think of what to say. While Steven thought about what to say Jessie said "You want to prove to him your not a little kid anymore right?" Steven nodded and said "You always understand what I'm 'bout to say before I say it."
Jessie put her arm around Steven and said "That's because I know what it's like to be a younger sibling." as they walked back to the front porch. The two sat down and talked casually for the next hour or so until Jessie got up to fix lunch. Steven decided to stay outside and enjoy the wonderful day.
When Jessie was done making lunch she brought it out and gave Steven a sandwich then took one herself as she sat down. Steven thanked her and said "Egg sandwich on white bread yum." The two talked and ate then talked some more until sunset. At about eight thirty Jessie asked "Any idea when Austin will get home?" Steven answered "Depends where'd he go?" Jessie replied "He went to Desmond's or at least that's what he said." Steven responded "In that case he'll be home in two minutes." after a quick look at his watch.
Jessie looked at him and asked "You know this how?" Steven smiled and said "He told me I'd not see him till dark. It's dark in what has become one minute." Jessie laughed quietly and muttered "Why did he say that? They care about each other."
After they sat in silence a few minutes Steven stood up and said "Close your eyes I have a surprise for you." Jessie closed her eyes knowing full well it would do no good to argue with him. When Steven was convinced she wouldn't peek he slipped inside and went quickly up to his room. He walked over to his closet, opened it and pulled out a small box about half the size of a computer keyboard. He ran back down stairs, quietly walked onto the porch and set the box in Jessie's lap then said "It came in the mail from one of the foster homes you stayed at. They told me to give it to you today exactly. Don't know why today but oh well."
Jessie opened her eyes, picked up the box and opened it. She pulled out a book, when she opened it she found that it was filled with her favorite poems and stories. She looked at Steven and asked "Which family sent this to me?" Steven replied "I don't know they didn't include their name. All they said was that they housed you for a month and that they wanted you to have it today." Jessie looked through the book to find a name but found nothing.
Jessie looked at Steven and said "It's getting cold lets head in." Steven nodded and held the door for Jessie then went in himself. Jessie went into the living room and turned on the x-box then put Halo ODST. Steven looked at Jessie and asked "What your not gonna read your book?" Jessie shook her head and said "No I want kill virtual people." Steven smiled and said "Then let me join you." as he grabbed a controller and sat down on the couch next to Jessie. They played Halo for the next three hours until Steven went to bed.
Jessie played one more level after Steven went to bed. When she finished the level she got up and shut off the x-box then walked upstairs to her room. She changed clothes and brushed her teeth before laying down in her bed to read. She read the book given to her for thirty minutes until she fell asleep.
That was part one. Part two will be posted soon. Please leave comments.
